Today Rain City Referral Members and some guests gathered at Salmon Bay Café in Ballard to celebrate our referral group and the business passed amongst members this year. Our group wanted to support a charity or group in need at the holidays and we chose S.M.A.R.T (Single Mothers Acquiring Resources and Training) – a local transitional home for single moms and their kids. As the director spoke about the homeless needs in Seattle, we were grateful that our small businesses could help in a small way this season. We were able to round up surprise gifts for all the kids and moms as well as needed household items.
The holidays are filled is expectations. But the fact is they can be stressful and lonely and hard. And on a cold day in Seattle, where it didn’t get over 35 degrees, I think we all took pause to think about what it might be like to be homeless and what else we can do to help people in need.
